EGTA 0.5M Solution is a useful chemical in a variety of buffers. EGTA is a chelating agent that can be used for the determination of calcium in the presence of magnesium since EGTA has greater specificity for calcium ions.
EGTA is also useful in ELISA reactions as an inhibitor of alkaline phosphatase activity. EGTA has also been shown to activate Ca2+-stimulated ATPase in rat liver plasma membranes and induce apoptosis in PC12 cells. It also inhibits the zinc-dependent endopeptidases, MMPs (Matrix metalloproteinases).
