Brain Heart Infusion Broth (BHI broth) is a useful growth medium for many types of microorganisms, including Streptococci, Pneumococci, and Meningococci just to name a few.
BHI growth medium is commonly used in food safety, water safety, and antibiotic sensitivity tests. It is particularly useful for cultivating rare microbe species. Growth of anaerobic organisms can be enhanced by adding 0.1% agar to the BHI broth.
