Camptothecin is a natural product isolated from Camptotheca acuminate. It is an inhibitor of topoisomerase I and binds irreversibly to the topoisomerase I/DNA complex preventing DNA re-ligation and generating permanent double strand breaks. Induces apoptosis in a variety of cell lines and is a potent anti-tumor agent.

Applications:
- Inhibits Tat-mediated transcription of HIV-1.
- Induces apoptosis in Jurkat, osteosarcoma and hepatoma cells
